What is Hellcard?

Hellcard is a cooperative roguelike deckbuilder where up to 3 players descend into procedurally generated dungeons. You build a deck of cards, collect artifacts, and fight enemies in turn-based combat. Each run is different: random encounters, card choices, and artifacts make every playthrough unique.

The Five Classes

Each class has a unique set of Attack, Skill, and Influence cards that evolve through Starter, Common, Rare, and Legendary tiers.

Warrior
Melee damage & block — uses Stamina for powerful combos
Bruja
Blood magic & curses — trades HP for devastating effects
Tinkerer
Contraptions & traps — builds machines and uses Screws/Cores
Rogue
Stealth & precision — bombs, poisons, and critical hits
Mage
Spells & elements — summons, scrolls, and elemental magic

Core Mechanics

Cards

Your deck is your main weapon. Each turn you draw cards and spend mana to play them. Cards come in three types:

Card Evolution

Cards exist in four rarity tiers: Starter, Common, Rare, and Legendary. At certain locations you can upgrade cards to higher tiers, unlocking stronger versions with improved effects.

Artifacts

Artifacts are passive items that modify your abilities for the rest of the run. Each class starts with a unique starter artifact, and you can find more at locations like the Vault and Library. Artifacts stack, so building synergies between your artifacts and deck is key to surviving deeper floors.

Combat

Fights are turn-based. At the start of each turn you see what enemies intend to do (attack, block, buff, etc.). You then play cards from your hand to deal damage or gain block before the enemies act. Block resets each turn, so you need to rebuild your defenses every round.

Locations

Between fights you choose which location to visit. Each location offers different benefits:

Deck Builder

The deck builder lets you plan your builds before a run. Select a class, choose a starter artifact, pick cards, and add artifacts. Your builds are saved locally in your browser — they persist between sessions. You can export builds as JSON files to share with friends, or import builds others have shared.

Tip

Don't skip locations. Visiting the right location at the right time can make or break a run. Prioritize upgrading key cards early and building artifact synergies.

Multiplayer Tip

In co-op, coordinate your location visits. Some locations like the Armory let you heal other players. Communication about who needs upgrades vs. healing can be the difference between a successful run and a wipe.

Gemstones

Gemstones are the currency you spend at locations between battles. You earn gemstones by defeating enemies. Each location option costs a certain number of gemstones — cheaper options give smaller benefits, while expensive ones offer powerful rewards. Managing your gemstones wisely is crucial for long-term success.
